Preceptor: Annie Behrend, RD
Location: PVAMC, 6D; General Medicine Teams 1,2 4

This is the rotation where it all came together. It was nice to be working with Annie again on the general medicine team.
Although I feel that I had been afraid of this rotation coming into the internship, by the time it arrived I was completely comfortable taking on the responsibility. I felt more responsible even though I still had Annie to ask questions and have her review my notes (since she still had to sign them and place orders in CPRS).

One of the days Annie ended up calling out sick, so I was able to cover her GM teams as well. Although I had the support of all the other dietitians I have worked with, it was not intimidating, and it was nice to be able to have an office for a day!
For this rotation I also took on patients that were on another dietitian's service. I was able to contact and chart for several patients in the psych ward. That was great exposure to a variety of personalities and disorders.

During this rotation I attended team meetings every day with my GM teams, where I communicated about patients and they asked for consults or my opinion. I also communicated with nursing on a regular basis to get accurate patient information. I helped a med student over the phone to understand the nutritional status of a patient. I continued to chart daily, as well as research topics or illnesses I did not understand.

The following are a few samples of my chart notes:
