Assignment title: Letter to a Legislator
What I learned: I learned how to get more involved in public policy. I learned how to research important issues in public policy and take action. I learned how to contact my government representatives so I could express my opinions and have my voice heard.
Reflection to the assignment: I found it interesting to review government policies and found that I was passionate about some of the topics that were being considered. This assignment helped to tie all of my community nutrition work together, and helped me to realize that I not only want to express my feelings, but I want to help others to voice their opinions as well.
Relevance to the profession: In working with community nutrition and public policy, it is important to be up to date on important issues that affect us. We need to be able to contact our representatives and provide a sound, informative , and research based assessment of the topic in question.
