Reflective Statement: Case Study: Celiac Disease

NFSC 470: Medical Nutrition Therapy I

Assignment title: Case Study: Celiac Disease

What I learned: I learned how to read and understand a patient’s medical chart and use that information to complete a nutrition assessment of that patient. I learned to be able to go through the ADIM/E process and assess the patient for their disease state and what the nutrition intervention would be.

Reflection to the assignment: This assignment took a god amount of time to complete. I started by reading and understanding the case, then researching the disease, then applying my knowledge to the case study questions. I was able to apply knowledge that I had been collecting through my education and nutrition classes. This assignment really pulled it all together for me.

Relevance to the profession: Dietitians need to assess patients all the time. It could be in an inpatient, out patient, or private practice situation. It even occurs during nutrition counseling. It is imperative as a dietitian to be able to assess a client’s nutritional status and provide a nutrition diagnosis, as well as to know of ways to monitor and evaluate the patient’s progress.
